Heartland Mutual Insurance has an excellent opportunity in our Information Technology
Department for a Security Analyst.
What you will do…
- Coordinate and conduct network and web application vulnerability assessments.
- Monitor emerging threats, assess risks, and recommend relevant controls and mitigation
strategies. - Provide support for security-related projects and serve as the security consultant to help
guide secure application and infrastructure configurations. - Conduct rigorous oversight of security systems and security configuration administration to
reduce risk to enterprise systems and accounts. - Work with external consultants for independent security audits, penetration testing,
incident response, and risk remediation when necessary. - Manage remediation efforts after security assessment findings outline weaknesses
requiring attention. - Ensure alignment of Heartland security efforts with relevant frameworks, guidelines and
governing bodies. - Ensure operational effectiveness of network security components for enterprise and cloud
environments such as firewalls, VPN and network devices. - Assist in the execution of the delivery of the Cybersecurity roadmap, providing updates on
progress and tracking changes in Heartland’s Cyber risk and security posture. - Promote Cybersecurity awareness throughout the organization, spreading knowledge of
threats, best practices, and effective use of training tools. - Participate in the delivery of cybersecurity and resiliency activities including tabletop
exercises, DR tests, and penetration tests. - Provide guidance and training to other IT staff on cloud security best practices.
What you will bring…
- Post Secondary education in cybersecurity or a combination of education and relevant
experience. - Cybersecurity certifications are assets.
- 1-3 years in relevant Cybersecurity Technology roles.
- Understanding of Network & Security device management.
- Understanding of Cloud security, design, deployment, and management.
- Ability to troubleshoot security events within network and cloud environments.
- Familiarity with IAM tools and practices.
- Good knowledge of Windows platforms, Office 365, and MS Defender.
- Good knowledge of Cybersecurity frameworks, tools, and best practices.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
- Experience in Insurance Technology an asset.

What you will do…
- Using knowledge of the Property & Casualty Insurance industry Products, Rating, Underwriting & Claims processes, be responsible for developing and executing test plans to ensure business outcomes are achieved, releases are defect-free, and that we fulfill the quality standards of our organization.
- Perform data analysis as part of problem identification.
- Evaluate interfaces for usability.
- Working closely with the solution team on the design and development of new features.
- Implementing new processes and creating new tools to automate testing.
- Own the communication of status and updates between our internal staff and various external partners.
- Project management by coordinating meetings, tracking project progress, providing status updates and communications to project stakeholders.
What you will bring…
- 3-5 years’ experience in quality assurance, specifically with Guidewire or similar insurance platforms.
- Strong knowledge of the Property & Casualty Insurance Industry in any of the following capacities: Broker/Agent, Underwriting, Claims or Finance.
- Quality Assurance, Process Analysis and/or Project Management skills and knowledge.
- Familiarity with QA automation tools and methodologies (Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber, SOAP UI, JMeter, etc).
- Critical thinking skills to recognize assumptions, investigate issues, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions, and proactively propose solutions.
- Experience in both Agile and Waterfall project environments.
- Ability to work with large data sets & provide data interpretation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Highly developed attention to detail.
- GuideWire Certification is an asset.

What you will do…
Network Configuration and Maintenance
- Configure and maintain network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
- Ensure proper network segmentation and VLAN configurations.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform necessary updates and patches.
Azure and Office 365 Administration
- Manage Azure resources and services, including virtual machines, virtual networks, azure backups, and storage accounts.
- Administer Office 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and other applications.
Veeam Backup and Recovery
- Set up and configure Veeam Backup and Replication for data protection.
- Perform regular backups, test restores, and manage backup schedules.
Security and Compliance
- Implement and manage security policies, including firewall rules, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
- Monitor and respond to security incidents, including malware detection and removal.
Microsoft Defender (Endpoint Protection)
- Configure and manage Microsoft Defender for endpoint security.
- Monitor and respond to security alerts and incidents generated by Defender.
Intune Administration
- Administer Microsoft Intune for mobile device management (MDM) and endpoint security.
- Implement and enforce security policies for devices, applications, and data.
Fortinet Firewall Management
- Configure, manage, and maintain Fortinet firewalls to ensure network security.
- Monitor firewall logs and respond to security events.
SOC Security Monitoring
- Monitor security alerts generated by eSentire for potential threats.
- Investigate and respond to security incidents.
Application Support
- Provide support for various applications used within the organization, including troubleshooting, and resolving issues.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams for application deployment, updates, and integrations.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Generate reports on network performance, security incidents, and compliance status.
User Support and Training
- Provide technical support to end-users for network-related issues.
- Conduct training sessions or create documentation to educate users on network best practices.
Disaster Recovery Planning
- Assist in the development and testing of disaster recovery plans and procedures.
- Ensure that backup and recovery strategies are in place and effective.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with other teams, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operation of the network.
- Communicate effectively with team members and end-users regarding network-related matters.
- English language requirement.

- College diploma in a related field.
- Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- 2+ years of experience in network/system administration
- Proficiency in Azure, Office 365, Veeam, Microsoft Defender, Intune, Fortinet, and other relevant technologies
- Working knowledge of ITIL best practices including Incident and Change Management.
- Strong understanding of network protocols, security, and best practices.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
